Thanks to funding from Tesco #BagsofHelp Initiative, Holywood Trust, a legacy from the books written by former local author Jim Hawkins plus the continued support of Annan Academy and Dumfries group "Step Together" Annan Harbour Action Group secured the funds to continue with our successful boat building projects and, in September 2017, began building two "Tammie Norrie" wooden boats, side by side, in our premises at Silverlaw Industrial Estate, Annan.
The project continues on the fantastic cross community work that was strengthened by building our last St. Ayles skiff and involves young people working towards an achievable target with the help and guidance of some of our older, more experienced group members.
Project lead, Malcolm Willacy, said "This is a new build method and one that will require the mastery of new skills by all of those involved. It will be a great challenge and hopefully the young people will learn new skills that will last a lifetime."
It is believed that this is the first time a pair of Tammie Norries have been built, side by side, anywhere in the world. In May 2019 both boats were completed and they should provide local people with the opportunity to sail, or row, against one another for many years to come.
If you have an interest in boatbuilding, or would like to get involved in sailing, or rowing, these beautifully crafted Tammie Norries then get in touch by calling 01461758210 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
